Midland Counties, Inter Counties and National Junior Cross Country Champion

7th in the World Junior Cross Country Championships- Warsaw

1st United Kingdom 5000m Championships- Derby

1st European Junior 5000m Championships- Birmingham

1988- 1991:

4 times Varsity Match Cross Country Champion breaking the course record twice, 4 times Varsity Match 1500m/5000m breaking the 1500m and 1 mile record at Iffley Road

1990:

I broke Sir Roger Bannisters track record for 1 mile at Iffley Road recording 3m 58.9 secs in a special 40th Anniversary Commemorative Race

UK 5000m Champion- Cardiff

I beat the then reigning Olympic 5000m Champion and 5 times World Cross Country Champion, John Ngugi, over 5000m at Portsmouth in a Great Britain vs USA vs Kenya triangular match. This was my most inspired performance as an athlete.

It was a gripping race- I hung on to him for 11 laps and made my own bid for victory with 600m left. 12,000 spectators roared me down the finishing straight and I just held him off for victory by the thickness of my vest!
